A fine and rare clock dating to circa 1827. A very fine example of a French Empire fire gilded ormolu / mercury clock depicting a young gentleman draped in smart clothes featuring fine detail reclining.
On the clocks drum with literary attributes nearby in the form of piled books and a scroll. The figure of the gentleman has been finely chiselled; he has very realistic features; pay particular attention to the face, hands and finger nails. The clock demonstrates the finest quality of craftsmanship.
To the front elevation, the clock features a silvered dial with hand painted Roman numerals. This fine clock stands upon a rectangular base. The front elevation of the base features shells and floral motifs.
The original mechanism is present without modification featuring a suspension silk thread. The clock features a twin train mechanical movement striking the hours and half on a bell. The clock is regulated by a count wheel. The clock is a rare example and is stamped to the mechanism'E Lesieur 1827'. Lesieur was a renowned clock maker and often collaborated with one of the most important bronze makers.
The original bell, pendulum and winding key are present. 32.5 cm high x 25.5 cm wide. Condition: Overall, the clock is in good working condition. The ormolu is in good condition and retains a very good colour.Please note, whilst the clock currently works, during transport, all clocks are moved around a lot, and therefore, they may require setting up upon receiving them as well as the possibility of requiring professional assistance or a service as they can get'stuck'.
