Antique French Porcelain Vase Lamp Cobalt Gold Encrusted Hand Painted Florals

Antique French Porcelain Vase converted to Lamp Cobalt with Ornate Gold Encrusted Hand Painted Dresden or Sevres Type Florals. This is a fine French porcelain vase that has been drilled and mounted as a lamp. The base is a high quality brass and the work appears to have been done by a lamp rewiring professional as the quality and workmanship is very good.

The wiring is current updated wiring. Lamp measures 20 inches to the top of the bulb socket. The width at widest point is 8 inches.

Base is 5 1/2 inches square. The porcelain vase is a deep cobalt with ornate handles that appear to be a knotted thorn wrapped into the white ring.

The top where brass lamp mounts are has a white and gold leaf in relief. Below that is a white band with gilt laurel pattern.

The side and lower part of vase also have leaves in relief outlined in gold gilt. A beaded motif flares out at the base where it ends in a gilt laurel pattern on white. The center medallion is hand painted in multicolor florals in a Dresden or Sevres style.

Colors in the roses and florals are deep pink, orange, yellow, blue and violet. The oval medallion is surrounded by raised gold encrusted leaves, bows and florals. The opposite side of the lamp has an equally lovely gilt encrusted design. Overall the condition is very good. In 4th photo white dots seen at top of lamp to right are just a reflection from camera.

There is a bit gold loss to both handles but it is part of the age of the lamp and to be expected. There is also some crazing to the white porcelain on the handles but is it light and does not detract. I see no damage to this stunning Victorian lamp! Beautiful in a living room, dining room, foyer or bedroom, guest room. It is the type of lamp that can grace an antique chest or sideboard and hold its own! I have added the photos with a lamp shade.
