FINE ANTIQUE FRENCH CARRIAGE CLOCK by DROCOURT HENRY CAPT. A very fine antique French carriage clock made by Drocourt for retail by Henry Capt, Geneve. This two train, 8 day clock fitted with original lever platform escapement, keeping good time and striking the gong once on the half and number of hours on the hour.
Includes a contemporary winding key. The back of the clock is stamped with a low serial number, 7885. Known serial numbers for this maker range from 1248 to 35,237 so this example dates from the 1860s and is likely the work of Pierre Drocourt who was exhibiting in Paris at this time.
Pierre was succeded by his son Alfred and most of the Drocourt clocks you will see for sale are later and the work of Alfred. The Drocourt mark is to be found on the movements backplate with the slightly worn retailer's mark to the porcelain section of the dial. The gilt mask to the dial exquisitely engraved. The case has original gilt finish with some wear as pictured. Weighs 1.45kg before wrapping. Stands 6.25" (15.5cm) high, with the base 3.25" (8.5cm) wide and 3 (7.5cm) deep.
