Old French Victorian ring with a conical domed face holding up an old table cut diamond amidst a petal like setting with ornate filigree scrolling shoulders.

Looking inside the back, the diamond is set in a partially closed back, with the area around the culet opened to allow the light to pass through. Rich rose gold patina, the diamond is somewhat dark I color from build up inside the closed back (which may be partially foiled) but it provides a nice glint of sparkle and this is a more scarce diamond cut and setting. It has the French hallmarks for 18k gold used in the 1800s until about 1919 which confirms the age of the piece.

Ring wears at about a size 5, The diamond is about about 2-2.5mm with the closed back setting (depth unknown). Ring face is 9mm diameter and it stands 6mm off the finger. It weighs 1.7 grams.

Please note that all my pieces are in estate condition, especially considering age of over 100 years. Under magnification the diamond appears darker and spotted from build up inside that partially closed ring face which is hard to get at for cleaning. It may also be partially foiled and deterioration to the foil.

There is wear to the petal like prongs which leaves a gap to one side of the stone seen again more under magnification but please look for that in photos. It is still a beautiful and sturdy setting with the conical ring face and ornate shoulders but the diamond does appear darker in color giving it a very antique look.
