Special French Victorian antique watch fob seal pendant with an oval foiled citrine set into the base with no monogram.

This piece has so many elements to add interest and uniqueness, it is just fantastic to look at. The sturdy piece is in 18k tri-colored gold with acanthus leaves and braided designs of overlapping rose, yellow and white gold.

Then the bottom rim is set with cabochon rubies to add a lovely color and sparkle in addition to the large foiled citrine set into the base. This could be worn as a chunky pendant, on a watch chain or chatelaine set - perfect to add to a neckmess or neckstack with a wonderful quality and sturdy hand feel weighing 13.5 grams. With all its design elements it makes a great conversation piece. The loop has the French owl hallmark for 18k gold. Chain is not included but it looks beautiful on a daintier chain or is substantial enough to be the centerpiece for a watch chain necklace.

Sturdy weight of 13.5 grams. About 32mm tall to the top of the loop, the base is 18mm by 22mm. The citrine is 10mm by 15mm.

I don't know the depth of the citrine as it should not ever be removed from the setting but just using online charts of an oval stone, the citrine should be at least 5 carats. Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. The cabochon rubies have surface abrasions and nicks and one on the far end is chipped but they are small so to the eye they all appear round with a beautiful pink glow.

You can make out the chipped one if you hold it up close at an angle and try to catch the surface of the stone in a reflection - only then can you see that it is uneven and not rounded. The citrine is in nice shape with the chips or cracks.

It has a few flea bites and nicks to the facet edge, some surface wear and a few deeper scratches seen again when you study the surface in a reflection. But with normal wear it looks really nice with a lovely polish and sheen.

Under light up magnification I can see some spotting to the back of the foil from age but this is not visible to the eye. The beautifully braided and overlapping bands of gold were all engraved at one time, but some of that pattern has softened and smoothed out from rubbing over years and years along that section where it bows out. The acanthus leaves look beautiful. Wonderful patina and beautiful coloring with the three colors of gold.

All the stones are secure. There is a shallow impression to the opposite side of the loop than where the owl hallmark is.

It almost looks like it could be an additional worn hallmark strike, but it is not decipherable to me so perhaps it is a shallow impression from wear. This should not come into contact with water due to the foiled / closed setting as you would not want moisture to deteriorate the foil. Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition.
